Perfecting Holiness For Heaven

In this week’s message, (Sunday  11th  July) Pastor Adedayo Anjorin   speaks on the topic of “Perfecting Holiness For Heaven.”

THE GLORIOUS KINGDOM

There is a glorious kingdom that the redeemed Church of God will enter.  A paradise of unimaginable glory, delight, love, joy, peace –  AND THE FULL PRESENCE OF OUR WONDERFUL SAVIOUR.  God wants us to prepare ourselves to receive a reward when Jesus returns for us!

HOW TO RUN THE RACE TO WIN

God longs that we advance in holiness.  Our loving God knows the destiny he planned for us and he wants us to become the best that we can be, and to achieve the most that we can achieve.  We need to know how to run the race to win.

Running the race to win
RUNNING THE CHRISTIAN RACE

The New Testament book of second Peter, in the first chapter gives us a clear ‘pathway’ of virtues that each one of us can by God’s grace develop.   Peter explains that we are able to achieve this stature and destiny because at our conversion, God poured into our lives everything we need.

2 Peter 1: 3 to 8 – By his divine power,  God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.   4And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.    make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,    6and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,    7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.    8 The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

(continuing at verse 10);      So, dear brothers and sisters,  work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away.    11Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

SALVATION AND REWARDS

Salvation is  a free gift to everyone who hears God’s call of repentance and comes with “both hands empty” to God.   We fly to the Lord aware of our desperate need of Him, and with a sorrow in our hearts for our past life of rejecting God and His salvation, we place our complete faith in Jesus ALONE as our saviour.  Such an experience gives us the “new birth” and we receive the GIFT of eternal life.

REWARDS BY DEGREE

The scriptures however teach us, that once we are saved there will be different degrees of reward in God’s kingdom. …….

…. Luke 19: 15– After he was crowned king, he returned and called in the servants to whom he had given the money. He wanted to find out what their profits were.    16The first servant reported, ‘Master, I invested your money and made ten times the original amount!’       17“‘Well done!’ the king exclaimed. ‘You are a good servant. You have been faithful with the little I entrusted to you, so you will be governor of ten cities as your reward.’       18“The next servant reported, ‘Master, I invested your money and made five times the original amount.’    19“‘Well done!’ the king said. ‘You will be governor over five cities.’

DEGREES OF DISCIPLINE

The scripture also clearly teaches, that some Christians who will be saved will suffer loss and only just make it into God’s kingdom.   This suffering loss, no doubt will include   NOT reigning with Christ during His  millenial reign

……….. 1 Cor 3:12 to 15 – Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw.     13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.     14 If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward.     15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames. (NLT)……..

Here, the different materials ….gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw – represent the quality ( or failure) in a Christians life.    At the judgement seat of Christ (2 Cor 5:10) every hearts secret will be ‘laid bare’.

A VISION OF THE LORD

A clear vision of Jesus ( that is a spiritual appreciation of Christ’s worth, loveliness and grace) is such a mighty blessing!    If we need to be blessed in this way we need pure hearts.     For the man or woman who is not born again, this means of course that they will never see God in heaven.  But I feel that these words “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God”, actually refer more to our close fellowship with our saviour – and our loving appreciation of him.

HOLINESS IS NO OPTION

Let’s always realise that holiness is no option.
……. Heb 12:14 – Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. …..
