The Fire Of Purification – In Trials

When we are faithful to the Lord Jesus in our Christian calling. we often go through fiery trials to test and prove us.   Fire in the bible often represents God’s dealings with us to help us, bless us and purify us in any trial.   God is described as a refining fire  purifying the sons of Levi, (Mal x;x).   God uses “ fiery trials” to purify and perfect us .   

1 Pet 4: 12 to 14 – Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed at the revelation of His glory. 14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

Men put gold in a furnace to purify it. Any impurities in the gold ( the dross) dissolves, floats to the surface where it can be removed. The book of James instructs us to actually ‘ rejoice’ and welcome trials because they perfect us.. They are like the fire that purifies gold.

James 1: 2 to 4 – Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

There is a beautiful and dynamic section of scripture in Psalm 66 where God describes the final blessings of those that go through the “fire of purification” , enduring various trials for The Lords sake.

Psa 66: 10 to 12 – You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us like silver. 11You led us into the net; You laid burdens on our backs. 12You let men ride over our heads; we went THROUGH FIRE and water,  – but You brought us into abundance!

The Judgement Seat of Christ

The imagery of fire also represents God’s judgment against sin or his discipline to correct us.  The scriptures make it clear that

The Great white Throne Judgement

As I said earlier, Fire is also a symbol of God’s judgement..  At the end of. ‘ the millenium (that is the thousand year reign of Christ on earth) there will be a judgement of the wicked dead.   This is the “Great White Throne Judgment”. This will be the time when all those who were opposed to God will be cast into the Lake of Fire.   This will be forever and ever – eternal punishment.

The Bible tells us that there are books with the names of the wicked dead and they will be judged according to their deeds and thrown into the Lake of fire..  However, there is another book which  is the book of life and within this book will be the names of every person on earth who has been saved by the blood of Jesus Christ and washed from their sins and forgiven.Those in the book of life.Will have eternal life.

Rev 20: 12 to 15 –  I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. And books were opened, and one of them was the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their deeds, as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up its dead, and Death and Hades gave up their dead, and each one was judged according to his deeds.  14Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death—the lake of fire. 15And if anyone was found whose name was not written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

God’s heart burns with love for each man and woman on planet earth..  He is unwilling that anybody should perish but that all should come to repentance..   God has moved heaven and earth to save mankind by sending his precious Son to suffer and die for the sins of the world. But for those that have rejected the Lord and His grace and mercy, God will have no choice but to send those to eternal perdition..  God is not only a God of mercy, but He is also a just God who must act according to His just nature.

We live in perilous times. 2000 years ago our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ, as he walked this earth accurately predicted these times. We who love and follow him need to be sure that we sound the alarm to warn this sin scarred earth. We must, as His servants, have faithful gospel preaching in the end times.

END TIMES SCENARIO

Jesus said, ” Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” (Mat 24;7)

Our Lord prophesied a period of intense conflict and upheaval.   In history these conflicts have always existed, but in the last century there has been  an exponential escalation in both frequency and intensity of warfare. In a very short time warfare has moved from the sword to the nuclear bomb with the ability to eradicate  whole nations from the face of the earth.     

FAMINES AND EARTHQUAKES

Throughout history Famines,  and earthquakes are natural disasters that have tormented humanity.   Famines are frequently  associated with  judgment, such as the earthquake at Mount Sinai in Exodus 19. 

Ex 19: 15 to 19 – Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.  18Mount Sinai was completely enveloped in smoke, because the LORD had descended on it in fire. And the smoke rose like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently.  And as the sound of the ram’s horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him in the thunder.

Our Lord’s words , “various places” suggests that these disasters will be widespread on a global scale.   

This aligns with the apocalyptic imagery found in the Book of Revelation, where natural disasters are part of the end-times scenario. These events serve as reminders of the transient nature of the world and the need for spiritual preparedness.

THE LIVING WORD OF GOD

God has spoken to us in these last days through His Living WORD.   Jesus is the living WORD OF GOD and the express image of the Father .   His gospel reveals to us  the infinite VALUE OF THE SOUL,   God wanted us free from the misery to which  sin brings – and the joy of His salvation.

The message of Christ shows the way of salvation for the precious souls that God loves so very much! God recovers the precious lost souls by Jesus birth, death and resurrection.

THE WORD SENT TO HEAL

In Psalm 107, verse 20 we read of One who sent His Word to heal.   The Word sent to heal is Christ. Jesus is The Word of God, (John 1:1); ALL healing has its source in Him.    He as the Word holds everything together (Col:7), and he in his love wants to bring health and wholeness to a world soaked with sin.   It is always the will and good pleasure  of the blessed One who is the eternal Word to heal and bless.  The nature of the Wonderful Word  is the express image of the Father, So, in the days of His earthly life the blessed Son of God healed by speaking a word, Matthew 8:3.  He took on human nature  and walked among us, and went about healing all manner of diseases among the people. 

Mankind today is in a terrible plight.  The sin of man is evidenced by lust, pride, war, selfishness, exploitation, the THREAT of NEUCLEAR WAR.  Mankind is broken and The living Word Jesus wants to restore and save.     The Gospel is God’s. means of healing.  The  wonderful doctrines of scripture are the ONLY TRUTH in a world full of lies.  the doctrine of remission of sins by the precious blood of Christ, is the only hope for a sin-sick world.

GOD US NOT A MAN THAT LIES

Mankind is sinful .   Men and women go astray from the very moment of birth.  

The scriptures declare ….

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

God is not a man that lies.  His inspired scriptures are true.  All of the prophecies He has ever made have or will come to pass.   One example is the prophecy of The Lord Jesus that the Jews would be scattered.  These words came to pass when the Roman legions sacked Jerusalem, not leaving one stone standing upon another!   Read the words  of our saviour in Matthew’s gospel.

Luke 21:20 – And when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then you will know that the time of its destruction has arrived. 21Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. Those in Jerusalem must get out, and those out in the country should not return to the city. 22For those will be days of God’s vengeance, and the prophetic words of the Scriptures will be fulfilled. 23How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. For there will be disaster in the land and great anger against this people. 24They will be killed by the sword or sent away as captives to all the nations of the world. And Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the period of the Gentiles comes to an end.

True to the accuracy of Jesus Words, Jerusalem was sacked.   The “ wandering Jew” was found scattered and persecuted in many nations,    But wait!   Read verse 24 again!   They will one day be regathered when  “ the  period of the Gentiles comes to an end.”

A century or so ago, even very studious bible students thought it an impossible thing that a small nation like Israel could ever come back to their own land.   Matthew Poole for instance in his commentary on Lule’s gospel wrote these words.

Until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled:  Some from this text think, that there shall be a time when the Jews shall repossess the city of Jerusalem. Whether any such thing can be from hence gathered, I doubt. 

But what Jesus prophesied has surely come to pass.  He, the Word of God and the express image of the father cannot lie. Consequently according to His word, after 2000 long years, the persecuted “ wandering Jew” has returned to homeland.

We also see the prophecies of Jesus concerning the end times happening before our eyes.

Mat 24:6, 7 – You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 

Luke 21:10 – Then He told them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11There will be great earthquakes, famines, and pestilences in various places, along with fearful sights and great signs from heaven.

And His promise to return to earth to bring judgement to sinners and relief for those that love him WILL ALSO SHORTLY  come to pass – after a time of great tribulation never seen on earth before.

Mark 13: 24 – But in those days, after that tribulation: ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; 25the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’ 26At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

God does not lie.   He has promised eternal life to all who put there trust in him., ( John 3:16; Math 5:24).    But when he comes in glory sinners who have resisted his kiove and grace for so long will face an awful destiny fir eternity.

2 Thess 1: 6 to 10 – it is only right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7and to grant relief to you who are oppressed and to us as well. This will take place when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels 8in blazing fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9They will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His might, 10on the day He comes to be glorified in His saints and regarded with wonder by all who have believed

Pastor Adedayo speaks about the shortness of our lives. If we number our days with wisdo we must number them IN THE LIGHT OF ETERNITY. When we are young the days before us may seem many but the stark truth is that they are really but few. When one is older , looking back over seventy years seems like but a little while to look back on.
Our days may seem to be made up of little inconsequential things; really there is nothing little; because everything has its bearing on the future, on character; and everything has eternal issues. It is a cause with a consequence. A little pebble may make ripples that shall never die away. One day before God’s judgement throne everything will be evaluated.
