THE EARTHQUAKE AND ANGEL
2000 years ago in the city of Jerusalem, two women came to anoint a dead mans body. They encountered an empty tomb, an earthquake and angel. Jesus Christ of Nazareth who have been cruelly crucified three days earlier busted out of the tomb in Resurrection power. The grave was empty! He was no longer to be found there. Jesus has Risen from the dead. they were so overjoyed that they did not find his body; they were also surprised by the earthquake and angel.
Listen to the story of two of his female disciples who had come early at the passing of the Sabbath to anoint the body of their master who they loved so much. They were surprised by the earthquake, an angelic messenger, – but most of all, the EMPTY TOMB AND RISEN LORD!
Math 28: 1 to 10 – Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. 3His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. 5Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. 7And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.” 8The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel’s message. 9And as they went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid! Go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there.”
This was the most stupendous day in history. The day the Son of God arose from the dead.
THE GOSPEL OF PAUL
The apostle Paul wrote these words in First Corinthians, chapter 15.
1 Cor 15:3, 4 – I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
A WONDERFUL PROMISE
The scriptures have a wonderful promise for you. We read in John’s gospel chapter three that ” For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him” (verses 16, 17).
This is A WONDERFUL PROMISE! When we truly believe that Jesus is our ONLY HOPE, and have a true faith in him – God gives us the free gift of everlasting life.
